R in Montreal 2018 is a bilingual conference for users of R —  a programming language and free software environment for statistical computing and graphics. 300 researchers, students, practitioners, and professionals from universities, the government, and the industry will attend this event.

“The R language and computing environment have gained in popularity over the past few years,” explains Daniel Stubbs, a scientific analyst at Calcul Québec and a keynote speaker at the conference. “It is easy to learn and it has a huge library created by volunteers from all around the world. I am very pleased that Calcul Québec will participate and give a presentation on the use of R on Compute Canada’s clusters.”

Daniel Stubbs has been working in the field of scientific computing for almost 20 years. For the last few years he has been one of the analysts tasked with helping R users on Calcul Québec. He also gives many of Calcul Québec’s workshops and training.

Julie Faure-Lacroix, a scientific analyst at Calcul Québec will also be giving a workshop on data visualization and the possibilities offered by the ggplot2 package. “Having the ability to produce elegant and relevant graphics is an essential asset in research,” she says. “This training will allow participants to choose a type of visualization corresponding to their data and rapidly represent it graphically.”

This event will take place at the Faculty of Sciences—UQAM, July 4–6, 2018.
